FO: Spiraluscious

Pattern: Spiraluscious
Yarn: 1/2 skein of BMFA Socks That Rock Lightweight in Mustang Sally
Needles: 3.25 mm 16″ circ + 1 DPN for border

Looove the colours, and the sproinginess of the yarn makes it a pleasure to knit.

The pattern said the cowl should be blocked “without stretching”, but I didn’t want that. I used the specified needle size knowing I’d knit to a tighter gauge so I could block the lace out somewhat without significantly changing the stated finished measurements. It blocked so easily, too–all I had to do was smooth it into shape, stretching as I went, and it stayed where I put it, without pins.

The blocking water was deep red after a half-hour soak, but the yarn doesn’t appear to have lightened and no colour came off on my hands while it was damp.

The lace doesn’t quite spiral like it’s supposed to. When I read the instruction to move the start of round 1 st to the left, I assumed I would actually move my beginning-of-round marker one st to the, you know, left. What the pattern wanted, though, for moving 1 st left, was for me to unknit the last st of the round and move the marker one st to the right. Yeah. That detail was left out of the written instructions, only appearing in the chart legend, and I, for once, hadn’t used the chart.

It looks nice, regardless. I might have to seek out more cowls to knit; they’re far more comfortable than I would have thought, and cover more than scarves.

This one’s a gift, though, and I might just wrap it up right now–I’ll take any excuse to play with shiny paper.

I love the colour. It reminds me of cranberries. Though that might be because I’ve been looking a Christmas pudding recipes since yesterday…
