Smashing.

I’ve been supremely useless and uninspired today, thanks to waking up with a killer migraine. The pain is finally down to a manageable level, but I still feel out-of-sorts and bed rest has left me wide awake. I also have a black-and-blue left hand thanks to a spectacular (and klutzy) maneuver involving a door and bad timing.

I tried to knit a little this afternoon, and it resulted in a horrible tangle of CTH Supersock. Knitting from both ends of the yarncake has been working out fine thus far, but the middle suddenly turned into a giant snarl that got twisted around the outside, and urgh. The salvage operation took an hour and I had to cut off about 50 yards. I should still have enough to finish the project, but if I do run out I’ll be… displeased. Let’s leave it at displeased.

I decided to put the knitting aside after that, and instead indulged myself with popcorn, pink lemonade, and Voyager DVDs. I’ve been steadily working my way through them over the past few weeks, and now I’m only six episodes from the end of the final season.

On another yarn-related note, I liberated (ha) two skeins of Elann’s Silken Kydd in Rum Butter from a destashing Raveler. I’d love to get it on the needles.

And that’s my Seasonal Startitis talking. I love knitting gifts for people, but when I’m faced with a queue (even a small one) and a deadline, my eye wanders and other projects seem shinier, despite my actual desire to knit the gifts I’ve chosen. Stupid brain. I do still knit for myself during the holidays, but I stick to small projects.

Speaking of small projects, it’s getting chillier, and there’s no such thing as having too many hats. I was going to make myself an Odessa, but then I saw the newly-published Tretta and changed my mind. It’s very pretty. I’ve set aside a stashed skein of deep burgundy Fleece Artist BFL & clear glass beads for it, and I hope to get the pattern soon (casual healthcare employment = no guaranteed shifts = 3 shifts total in October = broke).

Painkillers are starting to wear off, so I think it’s time to trounce the cats out of my rocking chair and settle in under blankets for a while. I need something to occupy my hands and dispel my rotten mood, but knitting doesn’t appear to be an option today. Maybe I’ll make a cup of my new organic honeybush tea and crochet a dishcloth.

Hope you feel better soon.

Tretta looks like a great pattern and burgundy should be a good colour.
